Internet Safety for your Child

The Internet is a great tool for fun and educational purposes, but as parents there are few issues we need to be aware of when exposing our children to the World Wide Web.

Often our children know much more about computers than we do – so the first step for many parents will be to familiarise themselves with the Internet and all its possibilities.

New Zealand’s Internet Safety Group has produced a website called Netsafe. Netsafe’s list of frequently asked questions from parents is an excellent resource to help answer some initial questions. The group has also produced a kit for parents and caregivers entitled "Keeping your kids safe on the Internet." This kit can be accessed via the Netsafe website.
