At Somerville Kindergarten, we regard ourselves as a community of learners. Children are supported to gain confidence in their abilities, develop independence and resilience as well as learning skills to work within a group - both large and small.
Parents / whānau are well informed about any current curriculum focus and are encouraged to be part of the programme and share their skills, strengths and ideas.
Somerville Kindergarten implements a holistic curriculum that is based on Te Whāriki, the NZ early childhood curriculum. We also provide a Perceptual Motor Programme (PMP) encouraging and supporting children to develop the foundation skills for formal learning.
At Somerville Kindergarten, children’s portfolios are highly valued by the children and their families. These are filled with stories, photographs and art work which show children’s progress over time and reflect their cultural backgrounds.
